College Seal

Monsignor William Kerr was a man who made a real contribution to promoting peace and understanding and to improving the lives of hundreds of young people around the world.

As president of La Roche College, Monsignor Kerr focused his leadership on expanding the College’s global reach, raising its visibility, and broadening its academic, cultural and athletic programs.  Under his leadership, La Roche College was transformed from a regional coeducational, liberal arts college into a global community of learners with a burgeoning international presence. His vision and unfailing dedication to the College and its students have brought the world to La Roche and have brought La Roche’s values to the world.

He founded the Pacem In Terris program, and the influence which that program had on the young people who participated is incalculable, but there is no question that for many of them, it was transformative.  But it was not only the students who were transformed by the program.  The College itself underwent profound changes which resonate to this day in its mission and purpose.

Monsignor Kerr was a true citizen of the world and a man who knew and was known by local dignitaries, national figures, and world leaders.  But despite being at ease with international luminaries, there was never any doubt as to who he believed were the most important people – the students.  His concern for them was genuine, and the students were quick to recognize that and look to him for guidance and friendship.

Monsignor Kerr made a deep and lasting impression on the entire La Roche community and we are saddened by his passing. He will always have an important place in our hearts and we are committed to keeping his quest for peace and justice very much a part of all that we do at La Roche.
