La Roche College and Sisters of Divine Providence to Host Festival of Lights on Friday, Dec. 5
PITTSBURGH, Nov. 13, 2014 – Festival of Lights, one of the most popular holiday traditions in the North Hills, will take place on Friday, Dec. 5 on the adjoining campuses of La Roche University and the Sisters of Divine Providence in McCandless Township. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.
Beginning at 3 p.m., Festival of Lights will include a craft show in the Zappala College Center. Evening events will include a live nativity, ice carving and carriage rides. Live performances will include the Pittsburgh Youth Chamber Orchestra, Providence Heights Alpha School choir and band, Village Singers of TriCounty Choir Institute, and the La Roche University Dance Team. Children can enjoy activities, games, crafts and a visit from Santa Claus in the Kerr Fitness & Sports Center. The festival will conclude with a fireworks display on the La Roche campus at 8:15 p.m.
Colleen Ruefle, La Roche’s vice president for student life and dean of students, said, “Festival of Lights is a community tradition that provides an entertaining, family-friendly atmosphere to celebrate the holiday season.”
The event will include the Cans for Cocoa food drive for guests to donate canned goods or other nonperishable food items to North Hills Community Outreach. The La Roche Student Government Association will accept donations at the entrance of Kerr Fitness & Sports Center from 6 to 8 p.m. Donors will receive a 12-ounce cup of cocoa for their generosity.
