Helping Students Reach Their Potential
If you know students that have a strong desire to attain a college degree but require a little extra support, the Providence Institute may be just for them.
We provide students with:
- Personalized assistance and support in their academic pursuits.
- Individualized attention through the Academic Enrichment Division at La Roche College.
- A Providence Institute Award to help students finance their education at La Roche
Students will be required to:
- Attend a one-week preparation seminar in the summer prior to their enrollment.
- Take full advantage of the support services offered through the institute.
- Apply themselves in their studies and demonstrate academic progress.
Students enrolled in the Providence Institute will pursue their degrees at La Roche like any other student, but they will have the benefit of extra support to help them meet their goals.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the goal of the Providence Institute?
La Roche College supports students enrolled in the institute by offering supplemental personalized instruction and assistance. The aim is to help students with potential realize their educational goals.
2. How are students selected?
The College evaluates an applicant's SAT/ACT scores, high school class rank, their essays and a personal interview (if necessary).
3. Will students be able to pursue their intended major?
Students will be required to utilize the Academic Enrichment Division and other academic support services as a part of their admissions decision, but they will pursue their goals along with all other students. Students will also attend a one-week pre-freshman summer program to help them prepare for the rigors of college courses.
4. Will it take longer for students enrolled in the institute to complete their degrees?
It should not take any longer for Providence Institute students to attain their degrees. Students will be taking the same courses as all other students at whatever pace best suits them.
5. What is a Providence Award?
It is a grant offered to a student enrolled in the institute as a means of support and as an incentive to succeed. Students who demonstrate academic progress may be nominated for greater scholarships and awards.
6. What are the institute's expectations for students who are accepted?
Those enrolled are expected to apply themselves in class and in their studies and take full advantage of the assistance provided by the institute. The Providence Award is renewed as long as the student achieves and maintains academic progress.
7. Can the institute help any student who might not be accepted through the traditional admissions channels at a college?
The institute cannot serve students whose academic potential is either lacking or whose developmental needs cannot be met while pursuing college-level courses. These students are often better served at a community college that can give them extensive remedial work prior to starting college-level courses.
