Management Information Systems is based on the Data Processing Management Association Education Foundation's Model Curriculum for Undergraduate CIS Education. The major is designed to provide students with the knowledge, abilities and attitudes needed to function effectively as business and organizational programmers and analysts. Futher, it provides students with the educational background for lifelong professional, cultural, educational and personal development. The MIS major will receive in-depth education and training in at least three different career-related areas:
In systems development methodologies, which provide the fundamental problem-solving approaches used in the professionIn technical computer skills, which provide the tools for implementing those problem solutionsIn business theory, which provides an understanding of the context within which the sysems are impelmented.The MIS major will also receive a broad liberal arts background.
To complete the Management Information Systems major successfully, the following course wok is required.
45 administration and management credits (students may pursue a second major in management by including AM 455 Seminar in Business Policy to their required administration and management credit to total 48 credits)12 skills component credits27 IST major credits3 IST major elective credits33 credits of Core Requirements33 General Electives selected by the student and the advisor (some of these 33 credits will necessarily include core curriculum requirements).
