Academic & Career Advising Staff

La Roche College's Office of Academic and Career Advising operates with an innovative and personal approach to meeting student needs. The whole advising experience is integral to the educational growth that students experience at La Roche College. Our belief is that an interactive and developmental advising approach will assist the student in the clarification of life and career goals. In partnership with our office and faculty advisors, students plan academic and career paths enabling them to achieve set goals.

From freshman orientation through graduation, students are encouraged to participate in programs and activities that will assist them in making educated career decisions, developing job-related skills, and pursuing professional employment.

Career Development Services

The Office of Academic and Career Advising posts and advertises all internships, full-time and part-time positions, utilizing an on-line recruiting system. There is no cost to register and post opportunities.

To access the system, click here
(or log on to www.ecampusrecruiter.com/laroche).

You will be asked to start a company/organization profile. This is general information about your company/organization. Upon completion of your profile you will be asked to submit it for approval. Once approved you will be able to post as many internships, jobs and career-related events as you wish. The system will also allow you to review student/alumni resumes, cover letters and/or references.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Dee Markus at Deritch.Markus@LaRoche.edu or call 412-536-1788.

Student Employment

  • Part-time and Temporary Jobs
These jobs are typically those that students hold during their college years. The work schedule is usually 25 hours or less per week and offers flexible hours.
  • Full-time Jobs
Full-time jobs are posted and updated regularly.
  • On- and Off- Campus Interviews
From time to time, employers request the opportunity to recruit on the La Roche College campus. Information on these opportunities is sent via email, postings throughout the college, and memos to faculty offices. In addition, we occassionally schedule off-campus interviews for employers at their locations.
  • Career and Job Fairs/Seminars
Our office receives mailings and invitations to numerous career and job fairs in and outside the area. We also work closely with other colleges and universities in Pennsylvania to create our own fairs. Several examples include Western Pennsylvania Career Services Association (WestPACS), Pittsburgh Educational Recruiting Consortium (PERC) and the Accounting Consortium.

Self Exploration for Career Development

  • Campbell Interest and Skill Survey
This inventory assists in identifying interests, skills and potential occupations. Upon completing the survey, the student is scheduled for a one-on-one interpretation of results.

Job Search Techniques

  • Individual Career Advising
Students can make an appointment to meet individually for interview preparation, resume and cover letter critiques, internship exploration and development, career concerns and portfolio reviews.
  • Workshops and Seminars
These are held throughout the year and are free to La Roche College students. The workshops and seminars cover various career-related topics that appeal to all students, from freshmen to seniors.

Internships

  • Internship Exploration and Development
Internships are an integral part of career development. We have hundreds of active internship sites on file. Our office can assist students in securing that perfect internship. Students can also partner with us to develop a new internship site. In addition, we have all the necessary internship paperwork.
