The Institute for Cross-Cultural Ethics
serves local, national, and global communities and strives
to enhance the distinct international mission of La Roche
College. Formerly called the Center for the Study of Ethics
and established in 1997, the Institute is a unique and
pioneering initiative that addresses the most crucial
conflicts we face as a global society. It faces this challenge
by examining these conflicts from various cultural and
intercultural perspectives and in the spirit of cross-cultural
dialogue. Through scholarly publications, programming,
and education, the institute seeks to promote an understanding
of the importance of ethically sound decision-making,
to expand sensitivity toward global ethical issues, to
appreciate diverse world views, and to cultivate a common
moral ground.
The ICCE regularly sponsors seminars
and conferences addressing diverse issues in ethics, and
hosts lectures, debates, and panel discussions featuring
nationally acclaimed scholars. Major events of this nature
have included topics such as Human Cloning, Physician
Assisted Suicide, Elderly Care, Corporate Anti-Trust,
U.S. Drug Policy, Impacts of Modern Technology on Children,
The Morality of Riskless War, and Media ethics. Forthcoming
programs will address ethics and the internet, youth sports,
human tissue engineering, and computer privacy issues. |
