The La Roche College Peace and Social Justice Group (PSJG) brings together La Roche faculty, students, staff, and administrators interested in issues of peace and social justice. PSJG's purpose is consistent with the La Roche College mission, one aspect of which is to "promote justice and peace in a constantly changing global society," and the La Roche College objectives, one of which is to "encourage in students informed, responsible, and compassionate participation in the resolution of contemporary social, political and moral issues."
The PSJG works to raise awareness of issues pertaining to peace and social justice through various activities, including:
- Hosting academic venues (such as film series) in which issues of peace and social justice are discussed.
- Sponsoring or co-sponsoring events (such as the annual "Global Problems, Global Solutions" conference) that speak to issues of peace and social justice.
- Disseminating literature (in part through the bookstore's "Peace and Social Justice Corner") concerning issues of peace and social justice.
- Supporting (through workshops and other means) the inclusion of the Millennium Development Goals in the La Roche curriculum;
- Partnering with local organizations (such as the Thomas Merton Center ) dedicated to promoting issues of peace and social justice.
- Participating in local and national actions that seek to promote issues of peace and social justice.
The PSJG is open to all faculty, students, staff, and administrators of La Roche College. For more information, contact Janine Bayer, Senior Lecturer in English, at 412-536-1785 or
