Endowed and Annual Scholarships
La Roche College is pleased to offer scholarship assistance through annual awards and endowments, made possible by the generous contributions of benefactors.
To apply for any of the scholarships, complete the related downloadable application. Return the completed application to the Development Office, 237 Bold Hall II. The complete address is included on each application form.
All applications will be reviewed by the La Roche College Scholarship Committee and applicants will be informed of the committee's decision. After a student is chosen to receive an award, the college's Office of Financial Aid is charged with administering the scholarships. Founders Scholarship Award
Created by the Sisters of Divine Providence, Marie de la Roche Province, the scholarship awards provide financial assistance to students with merit (minimum 3.0 GPA) and significant need as determined by the
La Roche College Financial Aid Office. The number and value of awards will vary each year; however, awards are for full tuition, less institutional aid received. Applicants must satisfy all other educational costs, including, but not limited to: room/board, fees, medical insurance, books, loans, and any outstanding balances owed to La Roche College. Applications are open to full or part-time, traditional or non-traditional, domestic or international students from any major. Students must be pursuing a degree from La Roche College and maintain the minimum 3.0 GPA throughout the award period. Essay required. Renewable award.

Heil-Pellegrino Pacem in Terris Scholarship for Sri Lanka Students
This scholarship has been established by Dr. Carolyn Heil in recognition of her and her late husband, Dr. James Paul Pellegrino, devotion to higher education and helping international students achieve their education and career goals. The scholarship provides an annual award to a full-time undergraduate, international student in any major. Applicants must be a citizen of Sri Lanka, have completed at least 60 credits toward his/her Bachelor’s degree, have financial need and at least a 2.5 grade point average. Essay required, plus two letters of recommendation, one letter must be from a professor or current advisor. Renewable award.

Suzanne M. Lynch Memorial Scholarship Fund at The Pittsburgh Foundation
The fund was created by friends, colleagues and loved ones to honor the memory of a talented young woman who cherished family and friends. The scholarship is available to students from La Roche College, Art Institute, Chatham University, Indiana University of PA and Mercyhurst College who are U.S. citizens, part-time or full-time undergraduate or graduate students, with financial need and completing their junior year in the Interior Design program.

Pacem in Terris Scholarship
The Pacem in Terris Scholarship is open to all full-time, undergraduate, international students who are a resident of a conflict, post-conflict or developing nation. Applicants must have complied with all United States immigration regulations and completed all secondary studies and all required government examinations required for entrance into a university. Applicants must not have the personal finances or access to financial resources sufficient to afford a college education. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, be of good character and motivated to succeed. Essay required. Non-renewable award. See application form for additional eligibility requirements.

Pennsylvania Governor's Conference for Women Scholarship
The Pennsylvania Governor's Conference for Women launched its Scholarship Program in 2005 in an effort to expand upon the Conference goal of fostering an educated workforce. A record 50 Pennsylvania colleges and universities pledged their support to the Governor’s Conference for Women Scholarship Program this year, contributing more than $430,000 in scholarship funds toward the continuing education of Pennsylvania women.
Through the program, one female student who is a resident of Pennsylvania will receive a $10,000 scholarship to La Roche College ($2,500 per year for four years) in any of the 50 majors offered. Applicants must meet standard eligibility requirements for admission to the College and will be selected by a committee, based on criteria that are part of our standard admissions process. All FAFSA information must be completed and submitted prior to the awarding of this scholarship. This scholarship may affect other need based aid. An essay is required. This is a renewable award. Applicants also must satisfy all other educational costs, including, but not limited to: room/board, fees, medical insurance, books, loans, and any outstanding balances owed to La Roche College.
The award recipient will have the opportunity to attend the Conference and be accompanied by a representative from the Office of Admissions as a guest of the Pennsylvania Governor’s Conference for Women. The 7th annual Pennsylvania Governor’s Conference for Women will be held on October 14, 2010 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Pittsburgh, PA.

Police Scholarship Award
To recognize the hard work and dedication of police officers who put their lives on the line every day to keep the City of Pittsburgh safe, La Roche College established this scholarship following the tragic deaths of three Pittsburgh police officers. Officers Eric Kelly, Stephen Mayhle and Paul Sciullo III died in the line of duty in April 2009.
Through the program, one student per year will receive a $40,000 scholarship to La Roche College ($10,000 per year for four years) in any of the 50 majors offered. This scholarship may not be combined with any other La Roche College Merit Scholarship. The scholarship program is open to all eligible dependents of current City of Pittsburgh Police officers. Applicants must meet standard eligibility requirements for admission to the College and will be selected by a committee, based on criteria that are part of our standard admissions process. An essay is required. This is a renewable award. Applicants also must satisfy all other educational costs, including, but not limited to: room/board, fees, medical insurance, books, loans, and any outstanding balances owed to La Roche College.

Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship
The Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship was established by the Alumni Association Board in 2009 to benefit children (natural-born and adopted), stepchildren and grandchildren of alumni of La Roche College. Numerous alumni from all majors have given generously of their resources throughout the years to make this scholarship possible. The scholarship will provide one (1) award for the academic year to a full- or part-time incoming student in either the undergraduate or graduate program. Applicants must be a first-time student at La Roche College, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and be a U.S. citizen. Essay required. Non-renewable award.

Robert B. Anticole Endowed Memorial Scholarship
Created in memory of Robert Blaise Anticole, who was a strong advocate of the importance of education, the scholarship award provides one annual non-renewable award to a full-time student. Limited to a junior or senior majoring in Computer Science, Computer Information Science or Information Technology, who has a minimum GPA of 3.5 and is a U.S. citizen. Essay required.

Campana Modern Languages Endowed Scholarship
Established by Dr. Louis F. Campana, in memory of Sister Mathia Pfeil and Sister Godfreda Pfeil, to encourage the study of foreign languages. Provides an annual award to students who have completed at least one full year of modern language study at La Roche, are currently enrolled in a modern language course and who plan to use a modern language in their career. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Essay required. Non-renewable award.

Carol '81 & Hugo Churchill Endowed Scholarship
This award commemorates the late Mrs. Churchill's educational experience at La Roche College. Provides for an annual award to junior or senior students with 60 or more credits (30 obtained at La Roche) with demonstrated financial need and academic achievement. Preference will be given to non-traditional age females and traditional age males. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Essay required and a sampling of portfolio of work (if applicable). Non-renewable award.

Divine Providence Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship provides an annual renewable award made to a full-time female student, with preference given to a minority student. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and academic progress of at least 24 credits. Essay required.

George O. Lauth Memorial Scholarship
This non-endowed scholarship was established by alumna Sandra Lauth Mervosh, SPHR, and her husband George in memory of her father, George O. Lauth. This scholarship provides one (1) $500 non-renewable award for a full-time incoming female freshman student with academic merit. Applicant must be a Pennsylvania resident and a U.S. citizen with a minimum 3.25 GPA. Two (2) letters of recommendation, one of which is required from a former teacher or guidance counselor, and an essay are required.

Dr. MariJean Ferguson Sociology Endowed Scholarship for Women
This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. MariJean Ferguson, former faculty member and chair of the Department of Sociology, by her family. It is a non-renewable award that is available to a full-time female student with merit and need. Applicants must be beginning or returning to higher education to pursue an undergraduate sociology degree after having postponed attainment of that degree due to extenuating circumstances. Freshman applicants must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0. Upperclassmen applicants must have completed at least 15 credit hours and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Recipient must maintain full-time student status during the award period. Essay and recommendation letter required.

Dr . A. Kenneth & Doris Hesselberg Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Estate of Dr. A. Kenneth Hesselberg, this scholarship provides one annual award available to a full-time undergraduate student in any major, having a minimum GPA of 3.5 and demonstrating outstanding academic merit with or without financial need. Recipient must be a U.S. citizen. Recipient may reapply for subsequent awards provided the student maintains eligibility. Essay required and a sampling of portfolio of work (if applicable). Renewable Award.

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, the scholarship provides one (1) scholarship for the academic year to a full-time, undergraduate student or incoming freshman. Full-time student applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and incoming freshman applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA. Essay required and a sampling of portfolio of work (if applicable). Preference will be given to individuals who demonstrate a sincere interest in and enthusiasm for Greek culture, society, language and customs. Non-renewable award.

Joseph E. Homer Memorial Nurse Anesthetist Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of Joseph E. Homer '98, who was a second-year nurse anesthetist graduate student, this annual award is made to an eligible second-year nurse anesthetist student who demonstrates financial need with a minimum GPA of 3.5. Essay required. Non-renewable award.

Sister Mary Thomas Kadyszewski Distinguished Service Endowed Scholarship
Established as a tribute to Sister Mary's 22 years of service to the La Roche College community as a member of the faculty, this annual non-renewable award is made to a new freshman or transfer student who demonstrates the quality of service to others through voluntary involvement in school, church and community activities. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Essay required.

Stanley Michalek Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of Stanley Michalek, this annual non-renewable award is made to a full-time undergraduate student with 90 or more credits majoring in Administration & Management with preference given to an accounting major. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Essay required.

Kris Rosenberg Memorial Endowed Scholarship for Returning Women
Created in memory of Kris Rosenberg, a former adjunct faculty member in the Department of Psychology, this scholarship provides for an annual non-renewable award for female students, undergraduate or graduate, age 25 or more, who are either returning to higher education after a period of absence or are beginning their pursuit of an undergraduate or graduate degree after postponing that degree due to extenuating circumstances. Applicants must have completed at least 15 credit hours during the previous 12 months at the college and have attained a minimum GPA of 3.25. Applicants must have demonstrated financial need and maintain a schedule of at least 9 credit hours a semester during the award period. Essay required and a sampling of portfolio of work (if applicable).

Judge Timothy F. & Mrs. Rhea Ryan Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established by Andrea and the late Thomas C. Ryan in memory of his parents, this annual non-renewable award is made to a student majoring in Administration & Management, having completed 30 or more credits from La Roche, and demonstrates academic merit and college/community involvement. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Essay required.

Daniel W. Schneider Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1979 in memory of Daniel W. Schneider, this scholarship provides a renewable award to a junior having a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrates curricular and extracurricular involvement. Essay required.

This scholarship provides an award to a full or part-time male student in any major who is a sportsman and is associated with a building trades union. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Essay required.

Zaffuto Family Endowed Scholarship
Established by alumnus and long-time La Roche administrator, George T. Zaffuto ’85, in memory of his parents Gerlando “George” and Ignatias “Betty” Zaffuto, this scholarship award provides one annual non-renewable award to a full- or part-time graduate student in the Human Resource Management Master’s Degree Program. Applicants must demonstrate academic merit with financial need, have a minimum GPA 3.0, and be a U.S. citizen. Essay required.

Frank & Josephine Zappala Endowed Scholarship
The scholarship is open to full-time and part-time domestic and international undergraduate students. Applicants must demonstrate academic potential, community service and have a sincere interest in and enthusiasm for Italian culture, society, language and customs. Two letters of recommendation, copy of all transcripts and essay required. Renewable award.
