Chemistry

The component that sets La Roche's Chemistry program apart from any other college is its Chemistry Student Operated Laboratory Venture Program (CHEMSOLVE). Available to undergraduates at every level, the CHEMSOLVE laboratory was developed to simulate a "real life" service lab.

Managed by chemistry students, the lab's operations are carried out completely by students - from initial receipt of samples, to analyses with the same methods and instruments found in professional labs, to final results and presentations to clients. The CHEMSOLVE lab is overseen by Chemistry faculty and receives feedback from an Advisory Board comprised of members of the industrial and research communities.

Currently, CHEMSOLVE's clients include area high school classes that have synthesized compounds in need of analysis for their own educational studies. Also, the La Roche lab works directly with industry laboratories, which provide samples to CHEMSOLVE to discover how the students' results compare to their own.

CHEMSOLVE has proven to produce valuable outcomes among students in their technical training, as evident by La Roche's high job-placement rate, as well as complements from alumni's employers about the benefits of the laboratory experience.
