Aside from academic course selections, you will find as a computer science major at La Roche that you have various opportunities to use your skills on and around campus.
In the past, students have worked with a campus group called Chemsolve to create a web-based application with a database, and another student created a massive multi-player role-playing game (MMRG) as a senior project and now works for a local gaming company that creates Facebook plug-ins for games.
You will also have the opportunity to join the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) LRC Chapter here on campus. AITP will provide you with opportunities for information technology leadership, as well as educational partnerships with industry, government and academic professionals. You will benefit by working on real-life projects with other students who are interested in pursuing a career with computers.
In the past, students in AITP have been very successful. La Roche’s AITP was the only student chapter in the Pittsburgh area to send delegates to the 2005 National Collegiate Conference (NCC) in Atlanta. During this conference, our students in attendance won the banner contest and a Top 10 Award for their chapter website. In 2006, La Roche students at the NCC in Dallas won honorable mention for their Java Programming. In 2009, a team of our students attended the NCC in Oklahoma City and won the Third Place Award for their web design of the Hampton (Pa.) Township Volunteer Fire Department website.
