Pittsburgh, November 4--Beginning next fall, La Roche College will make an administrative shift from six academic divisions to three distinct schools: the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of the Professions, and the School of Graduate Studies. All academic programs at the College will fall under the guise of one of these three schools. La Roche’s Board of Trustees approved the reorganization at its October 21 meeting.

“This new structure will allow the College to appoint three deans whose leadership and energies are focused on nurturing a specific grouping of academic pursuits,” said Howard Ishiyama, PhD., vice president for academic affairs, who noted that the three deans will be full-time administrators. “These deans will be able to create new partnerships with companies who want to work with La Roche more closely and with other institutions of higher learning.” Right now, faculty department heads are charged with undertaking such initiatives in addition to their teaching responsibilities.

Ishiyama stressed that La Roche professors will maintain the flexibility and autonomy that they have always had to create a challenging classroom atmosphere at La Roche. He believes that is an integral component of a quality education.
