Today’s busy world of work does not always leave time to volunteer. Jeff Witte, a 1992 graduate of La Roche College, has always found time to give to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh. This year, the organization recognized Witte for his efforts by naming him Big Brother of the Year. Witte, a Shaler resident, has volunteered as a Big Brother for eight years. Witte’s little brother, Kyle, is now 17 years old.

“It’s worth every effort that you put into it,” said Witte, a facility and project manager for GNC, Inc., who is also enrolled in La Roche’s Facility Management Certificate Program. “To see (Kyle) win a state championship in volleyball or attain his private pilot’s license is rewarding. You get to take part in that satisfaction because you’re part of his support network.”

Witte received his award at Big Brothers Big Sisters' annual meeting, which took place in January. The agency matches at-risk children in Allegheny, Washington and Greene Counties with caring, adult volunteers.
