The La Roche community pauses every May to recognize a member of the College’s founding order, the Sisters of Divine Providence. This year’s recipient of the Woman of Providence Award is Sister Celesta Rudolph, CDP, Ph.D., archivist and professor emeritus.

A Pittsburgh native, Rudolph received degrees from Duquesne University, Nazareth College in Kentucky and the University of Frieburg/Breisgau in Germany. Her doctoral degree is in modern German literature. She joined the La Roche faculty in 1967 in the Division of Humanities, and she has remained a vital member of the La Roche family since that time. Her endeavors have received numerous commendations, including an award from U.S. Congressman Doug Walgren for her work on behalf of social justice issues and for “support of human rights at home and abroad.”

The Woman of Providence Award is given annually to a member of the Congregation of Divine Providence whose life of service, as a part of the mission of the Congregation, is a compelling example of God’s Providence made <
