Pittsburgh, PA --Jim Tinkey, La Roche College’s director of athletics, can count himself among the 2004 inductees for the Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame. He received the honor for his accomplishments in the sport of baseball.

“This is quite an honor,” said Tinkey, who also serves as the College’s golf coach. “It is an appointment I will cherish for years to come.”

Begun in 1959, the Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame is based in Youngstown, OH, and honors athletes who hail from that region. A graduate of Austintown Fitch High School in suburban Youngstown, Tinkey helped his high school baseball team win two conference titles. He went on to pitch for Youngstown State University and ultimately the farm system for the California Angels. He joined the La Roche College staff as baseball coach in 1987 and was made director of athletics in 1996.

Tinkey received his appointment at the 2004 Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame Banquet, held in Boardman, OH, on Sunday, May 16. He joined 15 other inductees from various other sports. <
