Pittsburgh, PA -- On Wednesday, December 15, Rep. Melissa Hart (R-PA) visited La Roche College and met with Sister Candace Introcaso, La Roche president, and other members of the President’s Executive Council. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss how Congresswoman Hart might be able to assist the College in pursuing additional federal support.

“We had a fruitful discussion on the College’s mission and its objectives,” said Introcaso. “Congresswoman Hart is a strong advocate for La Roche College in Washington, and the campus community is grateful for her ongoing support.”

Following the meeting, Hart witnessed a demonstration of the College’s “smart” classroom technology. More than a dozen classrooms on campus are wired for telecommunications, data transmission, Internet access and cable television. Each one has a SMARTBoard that allows professors to use various multimedia applications as instructional tools. Professors can launch a web browser, project images on the screen or play a DVD by simply touching the screen. In 2001, Hart was instrumental in securing federal funds for the initial infrastructure of the “smart” classrooms. <
