Pittsburgh, PA--Hair loss from chemotherapy can be a devastating side effect from the treatment. Local women currently undergoing chemotherapy will soon be getting a boost from the joint efforts of La Roche College and Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) of Pittsburgh. On Sunday, January 29, students and faculty in the college's Interior Design (ID) Department will host a “Community Action Day” for CREW's “New You” program.

Through the “New You” program, members of CREW and friends create Satchels of Caring to distribute to women currently undergoing chemotherapy in Allegheny County. Each satchel includes a commercially made soft turban, a pattern to sew a turban, a scarf with instructions for tying, support literature, a journal, inspirational poems, prescription assistance information, a bookmark and a CD of Celtic harp music.

The “Community Action Day” will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Ketteler Hall. Volunteers will help sort, match and cut fabric and assemble kits. CREW's goal is to complete 600 satchels in 2006. <
