The North Hills Multicultural Consortium on Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, will sponsor the 7th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast. The annual event honors the Rev. Dr. King for dedicating his life to uniting people and creating mutual respect for all. La Roche College is a member of the Consortium.

Sister Candace Introcaso, CDP, Ph.D., La Roche College president, will offer the opening invocation at the breakfast and will be joined by keynote speaker The Honorable Cynthia Baldwin, Justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Musical entertainment will be provided by the North Hills World Drumming Ensemble, led by Heidi Kohne. Ashok Marwah of the Indian Cultural Association will act as Master of Ceremonies. Astrid Kersten, Ph.D., professor of management at La Roche, served on the planning committee for this year’s breakfast.

As part of the event, the North Hills Multicultural Consortium will present the 2007 Spirit of Unity Award to Vikram Rawal, honoring his leadership and contributions to unity in the Indian community of the Pittsburgh area.

The Unity Breakfast will be at the Holiday Inn North Hills, 4859 McKnight Road. Registration opens at 8 a.m., and the program begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. For reservations, please send a check by Jan. 10 in the amount of $16 for adults and $8 for students, made payable to the North Hills Anti-Racism Coalition, MLK Breakfast, P.O. Box 101519, Pittsburgh PA 15237.

The North Hills Multicultural Consortium is a group of organizations that have come together to promote unity and diversity in the North Hills area. Coalition members include AARP PA, Bahá’í Faith – Greater Pittsburgh Community, Charpai, Indian Cultural Association of Pittsburgh, La Roche College, League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh, North Hills Anti-Racism Coalition, North Hills Collaborative of Women Religious, North Hills Community Outreach, North Hills Ebony Women, Inc., North Hills-McKnight AAUW, Pittsburgh North People for Peace, Sisters of Divine Providence, Vincentian Sisters of Charity, YWCA Greater Pittsburgh Center for Race Relations and Anti-Racism Training. In addition to the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast, the Consortium also organizes the highly successful North Hills Multicultural Festival in June.
