HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS INVITED TO LA ROCHE TO REFINE DANCE SKILLS AND AUDITION FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
Pittsburgh, Oct. 5, 2007 — High school students looking to enhance their ballet, modern and jazz dance skills, and to potentially earn a dance scholarship, may attend an upcoming dance workshop at La Roche College on Saturday, Oct. 27.
The “Bringing Dance to Life” workshop at Kerr Fitness & Sports Center on the college’s main campus in McCandless is from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., followed by a mini performance by The La Roche College Dance Theatre. The workshop fee is $55; registration forms are due Oct. 15.
Junior and senior high school students are invited to audition the following day, Oct. 28, for a scholarship to La Roche’s dance program. “Scholarship Sunday” welcomes these students to perform before a panel of La Roche faculty and enjoy a luncheon hosted by Artistic Director Gerard Holt, members of the dance faculty and current Dance Department students. There is no cost associated with this audition, and sign-ups for Scholarship Sunday occur at the close of Saturday’s workshop.
The La Roche Dance Department is a ballet-based program, offering a bachelor of arts degree in professional performance and pedagogy. La Roche offers a dance major and a dance minor and a full range of dance elements, including modern technique, tap, jazz, ethnic, character and dance composition.
