Pittsburgh, November 10, 2008 — While everyone was awaiting the decisions made on election day, La Roche College President Sister Candace Introcaso, CDP, Ph.D., and members of the student body, faculty, staff and administration were making a decision that lasts forever – the decision to be more responsible for our planet. On Tuesday, Nov. 4, Sister Candace kicked off La Roche’s commitment to “go green” by 2013, when she signed the inaugural “La Roche Pact” in the Zappala College Center Square on the McCandless Township main campus.

The “La Roche Pact” is La Roche College’s plan for environmental stewardship. By signing the pact, the faculty, staff, students and administration pledge to become both a model and a leader in environmental sustainability by 2013, in time for the College’s 50th anniversary.

People who signed the pact agreed to adhere to four commitments that address issues such as increasing awareness of the relationship between humankind and the environment; promoting energy efficiency and sustainable consumption, thereby decreasing fossil fuel use; purchasing and using environmentally-friendly products; and strengthening the recycling program and reducing waste.

More than 50 students, faculty and staff members were in attendance to sign the pact, and throughout the week the pact will be made available for additional members of the college community to add their name to the list.
