LA ROCHE NURSING STUDENTS TO COMPETE IN SECOND ANNUAL STUDENT NURSE CHALLENGE
Pittsburgh, March 2, 2009 — The La Roche College Nursing Department is pleased to announce that six La Roche nursing students will compete in the upcoming Second Annual Student Nurse Challenge in Western Pennsylvania on Friday, March 20, on the Penn State-New Kensington campus, in New Kensington, Pa.
“The student nurse challenge is based on the College Bowl Program, whereby each participating school enters a team of five members and one alternate. They compete by answering competitive, in-depth questions related to the field of nursing,” said Terri Liberto, MSN, RN, assistant professor of nursing at La Roche.
According to Liberto, the La Roche team members were chosen by their peers to represent the La Roche College Nursing Department. The team is made up of: Jennifer Popich of Highland Park; Nicole Vrahas of Shaler; Aaron Gills of Mercer; Derek Yohn of Millerstown; Michelle Plan of McKeesport; and alternate Victoria Andromalos-Dale of Hampton.
“These six students have the confidence and ability to compete in an academic setting that challenges their critical thinking ability in a fast-paced environment,” Liberto said. “The Student Nurse Challenge motivates the students to participate in an event that ultimately prepares them for a future in nursing.”
Liberto also sees the Challenge as a good way for the nursing students to network with other nursing students in the area and believes that the La Roche team will be successful in the Challenge.
The Second Annual Student Nurse Challenge is being sponsored by the Student Nurses’ Association of Pennsylvania (SNAP) chapters of Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and Citizens School of Nursing, New Kensington, Pa.
