LA ROCHE COLLEGE ANNOUNCES NEW SUMMER INTERIOR DESIGN STUDIO FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Pittsburgh, March 17, 2009 — This summer, La Roche College is pleased to announce the very first Summer ID Studio @ La Roche College for high school students who are interested in learning more about the exciting field of interior design. Designed for students who have completed at least their sophomore year of high school, the summer studio will give students the opportunity to see what interior design is all about through sessions, field trips, workshops and classes.
The studio will take place Tuesday, June 23, through Thursday, June 25, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The Summer ID Studio will wrap up with a special presentation night on Thursday, June 25, from 6 to 8 p.m., where students will be able to showcase the work they completed while attending the ID studio to their parents.
“We wanted to host a Summer ID Studio to give high school students the chance to explore the world of interior design and to have a better understanding of what interior design is all about,” said Maria Ripepi, assistant professor, Interior Design Department at La Roche. “Oftentimes, the role of an interior designer is very misconstrued, and we hope this studio will help students better anticipate what type of classes and work they can expect in a interior design program.”
Cost of the studio is $250 per student. Space is limited, so interested students are encouraged to apply early. All interested students will need to fill out an application and submit an essay before April 15. Students will be notified by May 15 if they have been accepted into the studio, and payment will be due by June 1.
Ms. Ripepi is looking forward to the Summer ID Studio and hopes that students will take advantage of this unique opportunity.
“Our hope is that attendees will walk away from the ID Studio with an eagerness to further their knowledge and understanding of interior design. We want to provide them with a starting point, that will pique their interest in the design world and encourage them to continue their own exploration of design,” she said.
