LA ROCHE STUDENT RECEIVES JANE M. KLAUSMAN WOMEN IN BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP
Pittsburgh, June 17, 2009 – The Zonta Three Rivers Pittsburgh North chapter presented Carolyn Shields, a sophomore finance major at La Roche College, with the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship. Shields is a graduate of Shaler Area High School, from which she graduated with honors.
Zonta Three Rivers Pittsburgh North is the local chapter of Zonta International, a worldwide organization of executives in business and the professions that work together to advance the status of woman worldwide through service and advocacy.
Jane M. Klausman was a member of the Zonta Club of Syracuse, N.Y., and Zonta International Parliamentarian from 1990 to 1995. She knew first-hand the challenges faced by young women pursuing careers in business and understood the importance of helping women become business leaders. Klausman left a generous donation to the Zonta International Foundation. The scholarships are helping women pursuing undergraduate degrees in business management overcome gender barriers, from the classroom to the boardroom.
Shields is currently working at BCBG Max Azria in Ross Park Mall and plans to continue her second year interning with the Pittsburgh Rivers Regatta this July. At La Roche, she was a member of the Student Government Association and the American Marketing Association, was captain of the tennis team and will be a resident assistant during the upcoming 2009-2010 academic year. She plans to become a lawyer.
“It was most certainly an honor to win such a wonderful award,” Shields said. “I want to thank my family, because I wouldn’t be where I am today without their support, love and guidance.”
Shields is the daughter of Bill and Carol Shields from Shaler, Pa.
