LA ROCHE DANCE THEATRE ANNOUNCES 2009-10 SEASON

Pittsburgh, September 2, 2009 – The La Roche College Dance Department is getting ready for another season of outstanding performances and has recently announced its 2009-10 schedule.

This year’s season features the following performances:

Choreographers’ Series 09 – Saturday, Dec. 12: The La Roche College Dance Department will open its season with the student produced, staged and choreographed “Choreographers’ Series.” This year, the production will feature choreography by the La Roche College Dance Department students and alumni, as they spread their wings, try out their choreographic skills, and reach toward their goals as future choreographers and producers. The Choreographers’ Series takes place at 2 and 7 p.m. in the Zappala College Center Square, La Roche College.

Winter Rep 2010 – Friday, Feb. 5, and Saturday, Feb. 6: The La Roche College Dance Theatre will grace the stage of the new Father Ryan Center for the Performing Arts in McKees Rocks, Pa., with its annual “Winter Rep 2010” performances. “Winter Rep 2010” will feature the return of the much-anticipated “Scarlet Women of the Bible: EVE” and the world-class perennial favorite “Paquita.” Both performances will take place at 7 p.m. at the Father Ryan Center.

“A Celebration of the Spirit of Dance: An evening of dance destined to lift the spirit.” – Saturday, March 13: The La Roche College Dance Theatre returns to Manhattan for its third annual performance. This year, the La Roche College Dance Theatre will present an exciting mix of contemporary and modern repertoire selected especially for the Manhattan audience. With special guest groups slated to appear in the program, the performance promises to be “an evening of eclectic and joyful excitement of dance,” according to Artistic Director Gerard Holt. This will be the first time the La Roche College dancers will appear at the prestigious Ailey Citigroup Theater, Joan Weill Center for Dance in New York. The performance is at 8 p.m.

The Classics & the Contemporary: A mixed evening of classical and contemporary dance. – Wednesday, April 14: Back by popular demand, The La Roche College Dance Theatre’s “The Classics & the Contemporary” will feature Gerard Holt’s “Move On Up A Little Higher,” featuring the music of Mahalia Jackson, and as an expanded piece, the music of Christopher Brisson and Bishop Clarence McClendon. Also featured on the program will be the immortal selection “Kingdom of Shades” from La Bayadere and other featured contemporary pieces by faculty and staff. This performance will take place at the Byham Theater in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District at 7 p.m.
