Pittsburgh, October 23, 2009 – With the current state of today’s job market, it doesn’t matter whether you are entering the workforce, in mid-career or thinking about retiring, you are more than likely concerned about your professional future. Through the next installment of the Professional Development Series at La Roche College, you will learn how to handle these “career detours” and find out how you can drive your own career.

The next installment in the series, “Career Detours – How to Keep Moving Forward When the Road Ends,” will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, in the Ryan Room, Zappala College Center, on the College’s McCandless Township main campus.

Presented by Phyllis Hartman, SPHR, consultant, PGHR Consulting, this seminar will offer tips and techniques for a satisfying career journey. According to Hartman, the key to career success is “knowing where you want to go, determining what you need to pack, finding good travel agents to help, and being prepared to deal with roadblocks and derailments.”

Hartman’s program is based on her recently released book, “Never Get Lost Again: Navigating Your HR Career,” which she wrote with colleague Nancy Glube. It provides HR professionals specific ways to take advantage of the unique aspects of their career, which generally involves helping others map their futures but not taking time for their own.

Sponsored by the Department of Human Resources Management and the Office of Graduate Studies & Adult Education at La Roche, this seminar has been approved for two recertification hours towards PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification through the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI). In addition, this session earns participants strategic credits towards a SPHR certification.

Light refreshments will be available during a 6:30 p.m. informal networking reception. The cost of the seminar is $15. For more information or to register, visit, call 412-536-1193 or e-mail
