LA ROCHE TO HOST FOURTH ANNUAL SCHOLAR-ART SHOW
Pittsburgh, January 7, 2010 – Now in its fourth year, the annual Scholar – Art Show will once again take place at La Roche College and will feature the artwork of local high school students. The Scholar – Art 2010 exhibition will open on Monday, Feb. 1, and will run through Friday, Feb. 12, in the Cantellops Art Gallery on the College’s main campus in McCandless Township.
Students from Baldwin, Central Catholic, North Allegheny and Shaler will be submitting artwork in a variety of media to the show that will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a special awards ceremony slated for Friday, Feb. 5, at 7 p.m.
“The show is a great opportunity to show the community how good our Art Scholar students are and also how good our Scholar teachers are,” said Chiara Sauret, Scholar program director. “The show provides a way for each student’s pieces of art to be seen outside of their own schools; they’re sharing their talent with so many others.”
Sauret said that last year’s artwork was so popular that many of the students received offers to buy their work.
This year, 21 public and private schools are participating in the Scholar program, the concurrent partnership between La Roche College and western Pennsylvania high schools. Since 1995, Scholar has enabled qualified high school juniors and seniors to earn credits toward a college degree right in their own schools’ classrooms and with their own teachers, who are certified through La Roche to teach at the college level.
