LA ROCHE TO HOST 17TH ANNUAL POSITIVE SPACE ART SHOWCASE
Pittsburgh, February 11, 2010 – The 17th Annual Positive Space art show and competition is set to debut on March 4 and will run until the end of the month in the Cantellops Art Gallery, inside the Zappala College Center on La Roche College’s McCandless Township main campus. Positive Space is a student art showcase, featuring multiple design aesthetics in any field or major. Students from a variety of backgrounds who have taken at least one design-related course are encouraged to enter the show. Admission is free and open to the public.
Last year’s Positive Space art show had more than 300 student entries. Students enter their work into 10 different categories and winners are declared in: computer modeling, drawing, painting, illustration, graphic design, 3D design, multimedia, typography, interior design and photography. One student will receive the Best in Show award – the competition’s highest honor, sponsored by Howard Ishiyama, Ph.D., vice president of Academic Affairs at La Roche College.
The winners are determined by a panel of educators – including the Pittsburgh Society of Illustrators, which sponsors the Illustration category – as well as outside artists and designers. The panel of judges evaluates the entries, declaring a first, second and third place winner in each category, as well as an honorable mention. Once the selections have been made, the items will then be on display in the gallery throughout the month.
