BYHAM PERFORMANCE APRIL 14
La Roche College Dance Theatre will perform for the fifth year in a row at the Byham Theater in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, as members present “The Classics & The Contemporary: A Mixed Evening of Classical and Contemporary Dance.”
This year’s production features a variety of music, ranging from tunes recorded by Diana Ross and Mahalia Jackson to George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.” Beethoven, Rachmaninoff and Schubert also are part of the eclectic mix this year, according to Artistic Director of Dance Gerard Holt. Holt’s attendance at this year’s show is bittersweet; he will be leaving La Roche at the end of the semester.
He spoke fondly of his dancers recently, following their successful performance in New York City at the Alvin Ailey Theater. He described how it felt to be leaving a group that has been like family to him.
“I have watched some of my dancers grow and develop into professional dancers and professional teachers with their own schools. I have been to their weddings and watched them walk down the aisle and begin a whole new life, but mostly, I have watched them grow and develop into wonderful human beings,” Holt said.
Tickets for the April 14 performance are $25 for adults and $15 for students with valid ID, senior citizens and children. All proceeds benefit the La Roche College Dance Department. To purchase tickets, call the Byham Theater at 412-456-6666.
