G.I. JOBS PLACES LA ROCHE COLLEGE ON ITS 2012 LIST OF MILITARY FRIENDLY SCHOOLS®

8/13/2012

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (August 13, 2012) – For the fourth consecutive year, La Roche College has been named a Military Friendly School® by G.I. Jobs. This list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s service members and veterans as students.

The 2012 list of Military Friendly Schools® was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 8,000 schools nationwide. The 1,518 colleges, universities and trade schools on this year’s list prioritize the recruitment of students with military experience. These schools are making the grade by offering scholarships and discounts, veterans’ clubs, full-time staff, military credit and other services to those who served.

La Roche College participates in every G.I. education benefit program, including the Yellow Ribbon Program. The Yellow Ribbon Program is open to veterans who have served three years of active duty to the United States Armed Forces and are eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill’s full benefits. The bill, updated in June 2008, allows veterans and other qualified military personnel to obtain a benefit equal to the most expensive public campus tuition in a given state. The Yellow Ribbon Program then bridges the tuition gap between what the current GI Bill provides and what a private college’s fees are, should the veteran choose to go to a private college.

At La Roche, veterans will be reimbursed 100 percent of their tuition because the college and the government will equally share costs associated with obtaining their education.

“We’re honored to play a role in helping our veterans reach their education and career goals,” said Hope Schiffgens, director, Office of Graduate Studies & Adult Education at La Roche. “This is a time in our nation’s history when education and re-training is vitally important, especially to this group of men and women who have given so much.” For more information about veterans’ education programs at La Roche College, please send an email to hope.schiffgens@laroche.edu, or call 412-536-1266.
