GOLFERS TEE IT UP FOR SCOTT LANG MEMORIAL GOLF CLASSIC, SEPT. 24TH, 2012 LA ROCHE COLLEGE ANNUAL FUNDRAISER HONORS THE LATE COACH SCOTT LANG
PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (September 5, 2012) - La Roche College will host its annual Scott Lang Memorial Golf Classic at Wildwood Golf Club in Allison Park, PA, on Monday, September 24th.
Participation in the golf event raises necessary funds to support La Roche’s array of men’s and women’s athletic programs, where students learn the value of teamwork, sacrifice and dedication as taught and exemplified by La Roche’s late men’s basketball coach, Scott Lang.
In its second year, the Scott Lang Memorial Classic is held in honor and memory of Coach Scott Lang. Coach Lang, in 2010, at the age of 41, tragically passed away on the court while running his Redhawks team through practice. Lang began coaching for La Roche in 1993 and just four years later was named head coach at age 27 – the youngest NCAA men’s head basketball coach in the United States.
Bob Pompeani, sports director for KDKA-TV, will be joining golfers on the course. He also will serve as the reception and awards emcee.
The event draws corporate sponsors, alumni, students and friends from Pittsburgh and the surrounding communities. Major sponsors include: UPMC Passavant/UPMC St. Margaret, Fragasso Financial Advisors, Inc., Baierl Automotive, Bayard Crossings Corporation/Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, Pittsburgh Magazine, Comcast, DRS Architects, Inc., Giant Eagle, Inc., Massaro Corporation, and PepsiCo FoodService. A complete list of sponsors to date is available at www.laroche.edu/golf.
“Although proceeds directly benefit La Roche College athletics, the reach is far broader. La Roche athletic facilities are an asset to the entire community and are used by teams, groups and clubs throughout western Pennsylvania,” emphasizes Michael Andreola, vice president of institutional advancement.
Golfers and guests may register in advance at www.laroche.edu/golf, or by contacting Bobbi Kress LaPlace, director of special events for La Roche College. Greens fees, carts, gifts, contests and prizes are included, as well as a cookout lunch (at the turn) and a 4:30 p.m. cocktail reception and awards. Registration is at 10:00 a.m. the day of the event, along with a continental breakfast.
