POSITIVE SPACE CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF CREATIVITY AT LA ROCHE COLLEGE
ANNUAL ART COMPETITION TO DEBUT ON MARCH 14
PITTSBURGH, Feb. 21, 2013 – This year’s 20th annual Positive Space art show will debut on March 14 and run through April 2 at La Roche College.
Positive Space is a student art showcase organized by La Roche graphic design students under faculty supervision. The exhibit will be held in the Cantellops Art Gallery at the College’s main campus in McCandless Township. The show will open on March 14 at 6 p.m. with an awards ceremony at 7 p.m. Admission is free and open daily to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., including weekends.
Each year, Positive Space displays approximately 100-150 works submitted by students who have completed a minimum of one art or design-related course. This year, the competition will feature artwork in the following categories: 3-D modeling, drawing and painting, illustration, integrated branding, interior design, packaging, photography, web and multimedia, typography and miscellaneous.
All entries are evaluated by an outside panel of judges, who then determine which submissions to include in the show and rank each piece for a third, second or first-place cash prize. The top honor is the Best of Show award.
In honor of the show’s 20th anniversary, the College has invited both graphic and interior design alumni to submit artwork that represents their interpretation of the number 20. Alumni submissions will be displayed on opening night. Weeks prior to the show, the College also will feature an interactive installation in the hallway, which will invite students, faculty and staff to visualize and share ideas on two Plexiglas surfaces, celebrating this year’s theme of creativity.
The deadline for entries is March 11. Students can submit work online at www.laroche.edu/positivespace.
