GOLFERS TEE UP FOR LA ROCHE COLLEGE’S SCOTT LANG MEMORIAL GOLF CLASSIC ON SEPT. 23
PITTSBURGH, Sept. 13, 2013 – La Roche College will host its annual Scott Lang Memorial Golf Classic at Wildwood Golf Club in Allison Park, Pa. on Monday, Sept. 23.
The annual event is held in honor and memory of La Roche’s late men’s basketball coach, Scott Lang. In 2010 at the age of 41, Coach Lang tragically passed away on the court while running his Redhawks team through practice. Coach Lang began coaching for La Roche in 1993 and just four years later was named head coach at age 27 – the youngest NCAA men’s head basketball coach in the United States.
“The Scott Lang Memorial Golf Classic supports La Roche’s entire array of athletic programs, which broaden the college experience by teaching students the importance of teamwork, sacrifice and dedication, as demonstrated by Coach Lang,” Vice President for Institutional Advancement Michael Andreola said. “Although proceeds directly benefit La Roche College athletics, the value reaches beyond our campus. Our athletic facilities are an asset to the entire community and are used by teams, groups and clubs throughout the region.”
The event draws corporate sponsors, alumni, students and friends from Pittsburgh and the surrounding communities. Major sponsors include: UPMC Health Plan, Fragasso Financial Advisors, Inc., Baierl Automotive, DRS Architects, Inc., Bayard Crossings Corporation/Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, UPMC Passavant, Pittsburgh Pirates, Comcast, Giant Eagle, Inc., Massaro Corporation, and PepsiCo FoodServices. A complete list of sponsors to date is available at www.laroche.edu/golf.
All golfers and guests must be pre-registered before the event. Check-in begins at 10:15 a.m. Greens fees, carts, gifts, contests, prizes and awards are included, as well as a cookout lunch and a 5 p.m. cocktail reception.
