INTERIOR DESIGN STUDENT FROM LA ROCHE COLLEGE EARNS STANTEC INC. SCHOLARSHIP
PITTSBURGH, Jan. 15, 2014 – Chelsea Constantino of Butler, Pa., is the first recipient of the Stantec Inc. Scholarship, an award designated for La Roche College interior design students.
Ms. Constantino, a junior at La Roche, received the $2,000 scholarship for her academic success and community service, including her role as design manager of the student team that created the design concept for the Butler Library’s young adult area.
“Giving back to my community is very important to me,” Ms. Constantino said. “La Roche has prepared me to take on leadership roles on campus and within the community. My interior design professors have been excellent role models of leadership by instilling a focused work ethic and guiding all students.”
In addition to her academic achievements, Ms. Constantino has gained significant interior design experience outside of the classroom. She completed an internship with Hospitality Furnishings and Design, Inc. in her sophomore year and also worked as a set dresser and production assistant for several Pittsburgh film production companies, including North Shore Pictures, NaRa Productions and Dark Focus Productions.
This year, Ms Constantino serves as president-elect of the La Roche College Student Chapter of American Society for Interior Designers (ASID) and began an internship at Desmone & Associates Architects in Pittsburgh.
Lisa Kamphaus, chair of the La Roche College Design Division, said, “Chelsea is an insightful interior design student; her strong problem solving skills, along with her enthusiasm to accept design challenges, consistently produce creative and thoughtful design solutions.”
A global consulting firm with more than 140 interior designers, architects and engineers in its western Pennsylvania offices, Stantec awards the annual scholarship to outstanding full-time interior design students who have completed their sophomore year and meet other scholarship requirements.
Stantec employees have maintained a strong relationship with La Roche College since the interior design program’s infancy. Several Stantec designers are La Roche interior design alumni and continue to be involved with the program as mentors, adjunct faculty, and members of the La Roche College Interior Design Advisory Board.
“I earned my degree in interior design from La Roche College and am now an alumni representative on its Interior Design Advisory Board,” Stantec Interior Designer Nicole Duncan said. “La Roche has a great design program with dedicated faculty, and I’m proud that we can support the program even more with this scholarship.”
