PITTSBURGH, Feb. 3, 2014 – The Literary Society at La Roche College will host “A Pittsburgh Story” by guest speaker and award-winning journalist Bill Moushey on Friday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Ryan Room of the Zappala College Center. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Mr. Moushey, a professor for Point Park University’s School of Communication, will discuss how he established his career as a journalist in Pittsburgh. An expert on crime and punishment issues, Mr. Moushey worked for more than 20 years as an investigative reporter for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and has received local, regional and national awards. In 1997, he won the National Press Club’s Freedom of Information Award and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for his groundbreaking exposé of an out-of-control federal witness protection program.

In 2001, Mr. Moushey established the Innocence Institute at Point Park, where he formed a reporting curriculum to investigate allegations of wrongful convictions in Western Pennsylvania. The program earned local, regional and statewide awards before its closure in 2013.

Sister Rita Yeasted, Ph.D., English department chair at La Roche, said, “I have always admired Mr. Moushey’s sense of social justice. The Innocence Institute is a remarkable legacy of his passion to find justice for some who would have died in prison without his efforts. La Roche is honored to have him for our first spring Literary Society talk.”

Initiated in the early 1980s, La Roche College’s Literary Society provides a forum for scholarship and discussion on literature and other issues. For more information about the event, contact Sister Rita Yeasted at 412-536-1216 or
