Pittsburgh, July 17 – Honoring its Catholic heritage, La Roche College has established the first endowed chair in the College’s history, the Ketteler Endowed Faculty Chair of Theology. Monsignor William A. Kerr, president of La Roche College, named Sister Michele Bisbey as holder of the chair. Bisbey, director of mission effectiveness for the Congregation, currently serves as an adjunct professor at La Roche.

“What I have found is that college students are very open to what religion has to offer and are searching for an authentic spirituality,” said Bisbey. “In the whole journey of life, what sustains us are our values, not just information that we have. Without the values to use as measuring rods, all we have is intelligence. That is not enough. It’s just the partial truth.”

Bisbey assumes her new role at the beginning of the fall 2002 semester. The Ketteler Chair honors the memory of Bishop Wilhelm Von Ketteler, which established the original Divine Providence Congregation in Germany back in 1851. The chair also pays tribute to the Sisters of Divine Providence, which founded La Roche College nearly 40 years ago. <
