The Second Annual La Roche College Alumni Luncheon was Monday, May 5, at the Lexus Club at PNC Park. The guest speaker was Chuck Tanner, former Pittsburgh Pirates manager and two-time World Series Champion, who inspired the gathering with quotes such as this: “Go the extra mile. It's never crowded there.” He delighted all in attendance with stories about his childhood love of baseball and how, growing up in New Castle, Pa., he dreamed of making it to the big leagues – which he did, of course. Mr. Tanner currently works for the Pirates in an advisory capacity and says he is encouraged by what he sees happening in the organization and assures fans that a winning season is in the future!

Alumni Association President Bryson Thornton welcomed the group and introduced La Roche College President Sister Candace Introcaso, CDP, Ph.D., who noted that she once was a die-hard Yankees fan who transferred her allegiance to Pittsburgh during Mr. Tanner's managing years with the Pirates. Father Peter Horton provided the invocation and Vice President of Institutional Relations Ken Service introduced Mr. Tanner.
