Global Problems Conference
Hundreds attended the second annual “Global Problems, Global Solutions: Leadership and Action for Today and Tomorrow,” a conference held on La Roche College's East Campus on October 28 and 29. Students and professors from La Roche and a number of local colleges and universities joined representatives from national organizations and local charitable groups to tackle issues such as poverty, gender equality and race. Keynote speaker for the event was Salil Shetty, director of the United Nations Millennium Goals Campaign.
“It is important for people of all ages to grapple with these weighty issues and come up with workable solutions,” said Paul LeBlanc, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and one of the key organizers of the event. “I believe those who attended this year's conference went home with fresh ideas and an enlightened perspective on some of these topics.”
Sponsoring organizations included La Roche College, the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA) at the University of Pittsburgh , Brother's Brother Foundation, Global Solutions Education Fund – Pittsburgh and the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh.
