Members of the La Roche College Board of Regents got a firsthand look at how much the college classroom has changed at a reception held on Thursday, January 29. Guests witnessed a demonstration of the College's "smart" classrooms in the Annex Building, located on the East Campus. Each classroom is wired for Internet access, data transmission, telecommunications and cable TV. A SMARTBoard replaces the chalkboard typically found in traditional classrooms. The SMARTBoard allows professors to electronically manipulate text and objects, operate a DVD or VHS player, or surf the Internet with the touch of a finger.

"We are proud of the innovations the College has made to provide a 21st-century learning environment for our students," said Drew Keys, executive director of development. "We feel it is important for the Board of Regents to understand how such improvements can advance the College's mission of turning young people into lifelong learners prepared for a global economy."

The Division of Enrollment Services also offered a presentation to the board about the College's new approach to recruitment. That approach began with the appointment of Thomas Schaefer, Ph.D., assistant vice president of academic affairs, to the position of dean of enrollment services this past fall. Schaefer and his staff are endeavoring to open new markets for La Roche, and they are doing it by employing the latest technology available to admissions professionals. Following the presentations, guests enjoyed dinner in the Ryan Room.
