International Week (February 18-22) gave members of the College community a chance to celebrate the diversity that is part of La Roche. On Monday, February 18, the Pacem In Terris Institute hosted an international food fair in the Zappala College Center Square. Students from countries such as Jordan, Yemen and Burundi prepared dishes for faculty, staff and students to sample. International Week also included a fashion show featuring clothing from nations such as Uganda and Rwanda. "I am very happy with the quality of students we are bringing into the program, the instruction and the support from the College," said Beckwith, who is working closely with professors in the other disciplines to expand the program, which currently has eight students. Beckwith expects that number to grow dramatically in the coming years as the demand for facility managers increases.

Students discuss their strategy at the inaugural Ethics Bowl.
Four teams of students tested their intellectual prowess at the first annual La Roche College Ethics Bowl, held in the Zappala College Center on Wed-nesday, February 20. Organizers presented each team with case studies in ethics prior to the event and assigned each team a faculty coach. At the competition, the teams had to solve an ethical dilemma based on a case study. A panel of faculty members then judged each team based on its performance. Judges for the event were Dr. Edward Brett, Dr. Kathleen Sullivan and Father Patrick O'Brien. The first place winner was the team of Amelia Dick, Faith Mbabazi, Andrew McIntyre, Natasha Polas and Colin Titus, coached by Dr. Boyd Messinger. The La Roche College Center for the Study of Ethics and the Department of Communications, Media and Information Technology co-sponsored the event.

Each inductee received a plaque recognizing his or her accomplishments and dedication to the College.

"Working" Premieres

La Roche's first musical theater production took to the stage on March 2 and 3 in the Divine Providence auditorium. A cast of 25 students performed "Working," based on a sociological study of working class individuals written by Studs Terkel. The show featured characters such as a teacher, a mason and a housewife. James Neutrelle, adjunct professor of English, directed the performance. Thomas Octave, coordinator of liturgy and music, served as the musical director for the production.

Muslim Student Organization

Muslim students at La Roche College have formed a new organization to help the community better understand the religion of Islam. The La Roche Muslim Students' Association (LMSA) will provide educational opportunities - including Arabic language classes - to anyone who joins. Dr. Roberta Hartman, associate professor of chemistry, is serving as an advisor to LMSA.
