| Change, no matter how positive, often brings with it elements of anxiety and uncertainty for the institutions and individuals involved. La Roche College is no exception. Even as we look forward eagerly to the changes outlined in our new Campus Master Plan, those very changes can give rise to questions. Prominent among them is the concern that these changes may somehow represent a departure from the College's core values.
Nothing could be further from the truth. The College remains firmly committed to certain fundamental principles that have guided it throughout its short but lively history. Since its founding, La Roche has stayed true to its Catholic heritage, and has always been fueled by the dynamism and spirit of its founding Congregation.
The other constant that has been a part of the essential fabric of the College has been our commitment to meeting the needs of those we serve. That continues, more than ever, to be a part of the essence of La Roche. What has changed dramatically in recent years is the scope of those needs, both educationally and geographically. There is no question that our U.S. students need to have greater exposure to other peoples and other cultures if they are to reach their full potential as members of the global village. And there is no question that the world needs efforts aimed at forging a better, safer and more humane existence for those in the developing and conflict-torn areas of the globe.
La Roche College is uniquely positioned to make a real and substantial contribution toward meeting those needs. I am convinced that our arrival at this juncture in the College's life is nothing less than providential. God has helped guide us through our early years of growth to our present purpose. I invite all of you who care about the College to embrace that purpose and move forward with us in doing the important and exciting work that lies ahead.
