VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR ESL CONVERSATION PARTNERSHIP AT LA ROCHE COLLEGE
FACULTY, STAFF AND STUDENTS INVITED TO HELP INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS LEARN AMERICAN-STYLE ENGLISH

2/13/2013

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 13, 2013 – La Roche College’s English as a Second Language (ESL) Conversation Partnership program invites volunteers to help international students improve their English speaking skills.

Since 2008, the program has paired volunteers with ESL students looking to build upon their English capabilities. Partners meet for an hour each week on campus in the Zappala College Center, John J. Wright Library, Bold Union Room or in a classroom. Conversation topics are casual and relaxed, with discussions ranging from country and culture to family, friends and life at La Roche. The weekly exchanges serve as speaking exercises, focusing less on grammar and more on the development of conversation skills.

“The ESL Conversation Partnership is an opportunity for international students to learn American-style English after they have already learned English as a second language,” said Sister Veronica Kim, assistant director of international student services. “Previous international students, faculty and staff have all said that this program greatly benefited them.”

Volunteers are needed year-round. All students, staff and faculty are welcome to participate. For more information, contact Sister Veronica Kim at Veronica.Kim@laroche.edu or 412-536-1066.
