La Roche College is rising to the new challenges posed by the 21st century. A majority of U.S. employers are expressing a sharp concern: Are college graduates able to succeed in a dynamic global economy? Being competent in a specific field is, by itself, not enough. Today's student will also need broad knowledge and skills relevant for a variety of fields in our fast--changing world -- through the kind of well-rounded liberal arts education that La Roche is known for.
The La Roche College School of Arts and Sciences offers an array of high-quality programs in biology and chemistry, criminal justice and national security studies, history, political science,
religious studies and philosophy,
sociology, English literature and writing, psychology, languages, international studies and communications. Critical thinking, creativity and a vibrant sense of global citizenship permeate our programs: from the ChemSolve project run by students of our Chemistry Department, to proliferating global studies advanced by our social science departments; from an innovative forensics program crafted by experienced science and Criminal Justice faculty, to our English Department's cutting-edge writing program; from a dynamic film, video and media program carried on in partnership with Pittsburgh Filmmakers, to our highly-acclaimed dance program with performances at Pittsburgh's Byham Theater; and much, much more.
