International Student Services

What do I need to do in order to apply for a student visa?

(Please check with the US Embassy in your country for specific requirements.)

In most cases, the embassy asks you to bring the following:

--F1 visa application form (available at the embassy)
--receipt for SEVIS payment
--valid passport
--admission letter and I-20 from La Roche College

In some cases, students are asked to bring their financial documents and transcripts or other documents.

What is a SEVIS fee and how do I pay it?

The SEVIS fee is charged by the Homeland Security office of the US Government for processing your visa application. The fee can be paid on-line, by visiting www.fmjfee.com or by Western Union. Please do not send the SEVIS fee to the College.

Do you provide airport pick-up?

Yes, we do. Please make sure to e-mail us or fax us your arrival information, such as date and time of arrival, flight number and your departure city.

Can I get a job on campus?

International students are permitted to work on campus. They can apply for a job in the Dining Hall at the College. Not all students will be able to get a job on campus immediately, but every semester there are a few openings.

When are tuition payments due?

Payment is due at the beginning of each semester for that semester. Students can also enroll in a payment plan. All students need to make payments on time in order to maintain their full-time status.

Can an international student attend part-time?

No. All international students must be registered for at least 12 credit hours each semester. ESL students typically take 20 hours of classes per week. ESL students who take less than 20 hours per week may need more time to complete the program.

What is the weather like in Pittsburgh ?

Pittsburgh experiences all four seasons: spring, summer, fall and winter. The average temperature in January, the coldest month of the year, is 30 F (29 C). In July, the hottest month of the year, the average temperature is 85 F (3 C). Make sure to bring with you some cold weather clothes, such as sweaters, boots, hats and jackets for the winter months. Winter clothes can also be purchased in stores near campus.

What should I bring with me?

Please bring bedding, such as bed sheets, a pillow and a blanket. You should also bring personal items such as towels, clothes and shoes, pajamas, personal hygiene items, and perhaps some things to make you feel at home, such as family photos.
