New students are given a placement test during the week before classes begin. The test evaluates grammar, reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Students are placed into the appropriate courses based on placement test results. The tests include:

An oral interview (5 - 10 minutes)
A writing sample (30 minutes)
A computerized test of grammar, vocabulary and reading (1 - 1 ½ hours)

Your results will be available within 2-3 days after the test. You will complete your registration with a faculty adviser.

For students admitted to a La Roche College academic program, advanced ESL courses may count toward graduation requirements. Some academic courses may be added at the Advance level, with the recommendation of their ESL Program adviser.

Some students at the Advanced level may add mainstream academic courses with the recommendation of their ESL Program adviser.

The ESL Program requires from one to four semesters to complete, depending on the student and his or her placement
