SCHOLARLY ACHIEVEMENTS:
Written and published several articles in journals, books, and newsmagazines. Latest (2007) articles include "Development of Chinese-Malaysian Cultural Identity: Capitalism, Communalism, and Nationality," in Michael Weiness and Annette Richardson (eds.), Exploring Perspectives in Culture, (Edmonton : University of Alberta ); and "Ethnonational Oppression and International Apathy: Comparison of the Struggles of the Oromo in Ethiopia and the Moro in the Philippines ," Journal of Oromo Studies , Vol. 14, no. 2 (July 2007). Also presented papers and research at various academic as well as professional conferences and seminars (1993-2005). Before joining the academia, spent 12 years in various corporate and public sector management. Among the professional accomplishments then included being recipient of employee recognitions for the introduction of innovative management techniques, employee counseling services, in-house publication, and professional development workshops.
AWARDS RECEIVED: Outstanding teaching award from the University of Tennessee; Alpha Kappa Delta Honors society; member of Mid-South Sociological Association, member of International Cultural Research Network.
