Although it is extremely important to study terminology, concepts and theories, it is just as important to utilize that knowledge. At La Roche, the CIS/IT majors have several opportunities to gain "real world" experience.

YOU could be a:

•  Student Instructor (SI) and assist an instructor during an IST or CS course.

•  Tutor - and work with the Academic Enrichment Center to provide one-on-one
    time for students.

•  Work Study and help other departments with their computer problems.

OR

YOU may wish to join the AITP (Association of Information Technology Professionals). This active college chapter of the National Organization provides the HELP DESK assistance to the resident students. This chapter provides YOU with the opportunity to volunteer and learn "hands on" experience by helping students with their every day computer problems. Spyware, viruses, networking problems occur often among the student body and YOU can be the techie that solves the problem.

The chapter has also sent a team of competitors to the National Collegiate Conference the past 2 years. The students went to Atlanta , GA in 2005, the chapter won for the BEST TECHNOLOGY BANNER and competed in Web Design, Hardware, Database and Network competitions. Off to Dallas , TX in 2006, and received an Honorable Mention in the JAVA competition. ONWARD to Detroit , MI in 2007 and we know how well Pittsburgh teams do in Detroit !
