Student Teaching

Student teachers learn firsthand the responsibilities of classroom instruction by being paired with a mentor teacher. You will assign tasks, give and make tests, and suggest methods to enhance classroom activities.

Requirements to Begin Student Teaching

• Completion of all coursework
• Adviser approval
• 3.0 QPA overall
• 3.0 QPA in certification
• 3.0 QPA in education
• 6 credits in composition
• 6 credits of college level math (minimum "C" in each course)
• Completion of Student Teaching application form
• Official transcripts from all institutions
• Completion of Praxis I
• Completion of Praxis II
• Resume and cover letter regarding student teaching
• TB Test verification
• ACT 33/151 Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance
• Act 34 Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record

Exit Requirements for Student Teaching

• Two letters of academic/professional recommendation
• Two-page, double-spaced goal statement
• Written unit plan
• Tape of lesson taught during Advanced Field Placement
• Two-page reflective analysis of videotaped lesson
• Portfolio in progress
• 75 days of documented student teaching
• Updated resume
• Cover letter
• Updated clearances
