Campus Ministry Website contains upcoming events & activities! |
Campus Ministry offers students the opportunity to serve as Eucharistic ministers, greeters and lectors at Mass as well as leaders of prayer services and bible study. Students sing in our choir and share their talents as musicians at our services and are active in the planning of retreats, days of reflection and social programs. Students can also participate in our regularly scheduled social and discussion nights.
Campus Ministry programs include Faith on Film, Coffee and Catholicism, Generations Faith Sharing, the Easter Buddy Program, Adopt-a-Nun Visitation Program, Sunday Night Live Liturgy and Fellowship, Evening Prayer during Lent and Advent, the La Roche College retreat, and our 9:37 Tuesday Night Bible Study. For those students interested in joining the Catholic Faith or needing to be confirmed, we offer the Journey (RCIA) discernment and discussion program. Campus Ministry, as an officially recognized club of the College, participates in several major programs sponsored by College Activities, the La Roche Activities Forum and Student Government.
Campus Ministry at La Roche promotes a respect of faith and religion and recognizes the rich religious diversity of our students, faculty and staff.
The Campus Ministry office assists students of other faiths in identifying local communities where students can share in common worship. Additionally, students of other religious traditions are invited and encouraged to participate in the planning and promotion of worship on our campus.
The Magdalen Chapel serves as the spiritual heart of the La Roche College Campus. It was built in 1990 and presented to the College as a gift from Walter and Dolores Bold and the Richard B. Fisher Family in memory of Magdalena Mauer Bold. This magnificent worship space is open daily, 7:30 a.m.- 9:30 p.m., for the celebration of the Eucharist as well as private devotion and prayer. Students, staff and faculty find the chapel to be a special, sacred place for quiet reflection, a place to draw closer to our God.

Community Service
Community Service is an essential part of the mission of La Roche College and a defining element of Campus Ministry . Our programming gives students valuable opportunities to develop service and leadership skills while expanding their perspectives on the needs of the marginalized in our society. Basing our volunteer offerings on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, we seek
- to feed the hungry and help those suffering the effects of poverty,
- to help educate children,
- to promote healthcare awareness,
- to work for environmental sustainability,
- to develop an awareness of global needs.
With these ideals in mind, our students, staff and faculty who volunteer with us provide service in a variety of ways, including but not limited to:
- mentoring and tutoring at risk youth
- visiting the elderly
- preparing and serving food in homeless shelters
- building rehab and neighborhood cleanup
- organizing health fairs, blood drives and food drives
Students, staff, and faculty who volunteer are encouraged to become involved on a regular basis and build relationships with those whom they serve. However, we welcome those volunteers who can only participate as a one-time event. Opportunities for service are provided both on and off campus and there are a limited number of work study positions available on and off campus for students who qualify.
9:37 Christian Fellowship
La Roche College welcomes students of all faith traditions. To help meet the needs of some of our Christian students, CCO, a Protestant Christian outreach group that focuses on developing faith and leadership in young adults, meets on campus each week. Typically, the group meets at 9:37 P.M. on Tuesday evenings. But the name 9:37 also refers to the Gospel of Matthew, chapter nine, verse thirty-seven: Jesus said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few." To encourage the faith of the students and staff that participate in 9:37, music, prayer, and faith sharing are including in each meeting. There is also great food and fun trips, along with community service experiences. 9:37 participants are also encouraged to attend CCO's Jubilee Conference, held in Pittsburgh and attended by thousands of students from across the country If you are interested in joining or want to know more about 9:37, CCO or the Jubilee Conference, please contact TR Richards at tomrichards@northparkepc.org.
Alternative Spring Break
Each year during the spring break, Campus Ministry invites interested students to join our staff in giving service in some needy area of the country. We have served in various areas, including Appalachia and New Orleans . These efforts are carried out in the tradition of Providence , extending God's care and compassion to all we meet. In addition to service, included in the schedule each day is time for prayer, reflection, and sharing faith. There is also time for fun and recreation, sightseeing, and making friends in the local area.
Community Service Club
La Roche College has an on campus student organization for community service. The Community Service Club is a group of dedicated students who coordinate and work on several service projects throughout the year.
Membership in our Community Service Club is open to all students, but you do not have to be a member to assist with the programs. This club holds regular meetings throughout the academic year not only to create new service opportunities, but also to share experiences and reflect upon the service they have done.
