Sister Mary Glenn-photoSister Mary Glenn entered the Congregation from Ford City, PA in 1940. Her life of scholarship in theology was nurtured as she pursued a Master’s Degree at Notre Dame University, and through past graduate work in philosophy at Duquesne University, in catechetics at the Catholic University of America, in religious studies at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, the University of Pittsburgh, and St. Mary’s in Notre Dame. For 20 years, Sister Mary was a highly respected and acclaimed high school teacher of religious studies, music and languages. She served as department chair of religion at Canevin High School and Divine Providence Academy and was the supervisor of religious education for the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Sister Mary also served as an instructor in theology at La Roche University, Duquesne University, Carlow College, University of Notre Dame and Marist College.

Sister Mary’s scholarship is evidenced in her publications in The Thomist, numerous articles in the Catholic Youth Encyclopedia, and a frequent contributor to the Journal of Religious Education. In addition, she was a noted speaker at religious education workshops and conventions. She was the author of Roots of Faith, a ground breaking high school religion series that used the Bible as a text. Sister Mary also served as a religious education consultant for Harcourt, Brace & World and was the co-founder of the Pittsburgh Diocesan Association of Religion Teachers. She was a much sought after lecturer in adult education programs and ecumenical groups, and the director of two television series on New Biblical Insights for parents and Teachers.

From 1970-1995, Sister Mary held elected leadership positions in the Congregation of the Sisters of Divine Providence, including the office of general supervisor. She returned from Rome in 1995, but continues to minister where needed – in foster care and as a tutor. Her life has been a life of scholarship and service. Her dedication is rooted in a deep and abiding faith in a Provident God. Sister Mary Glen is a Woman of Providence whom La Roche University is proud to honor.
