Requesting Accommodations

Procedure for Requesting Accommodations

The Office of Accessibility Services is a resource for students with disabilities and medical conditions at La Roche. Students who feel that they are in need of accommodations are invited to participate in an interactive process to determine any reasonable accommodations.

Documentation Guidelines

To request accommodations please provide current documentation no more than three years old that outlines:

  • Your disability/medical condition
  • How it affects your ability to participate in classes and other activities
  • What accommodations are recommended by your diagnosing or treating professional

It is important that you provide this information as early as possible. Documentation will be accepted at any time, but providing it early in the semester (or even before the semester begins) will give us ample time to review your documentation and make sure the appropriate accommodations are in place when the semester starts. This information is kept confidential, as your privacy is important to us.

Forms to Complete

Intake Meeting

In addition to submitting the appropriate documentation, all students requesting accommodations must meet with the Assistant Director of Accessibility and Equity for an intake interview. During this initial meeting, you will discuss:

  • Your strengths
  • Areas that need improvement
  • How your disability impacts your daily life/functional limitations
  • Possible services and supports
  • Your rights and responsibilities

Accommodations

Accommodations are always determined on an individual, case-by-case basis. After a plan for reasonable accommodations is determined, you and your professors will be given an accommodation letter outlining your supports. Additionally, you are encouraged to communicate with your professors about your needs as appropriate.

Important Note

You must meet with the Assistant Director of Accessibility and Equity at least once every semester in order to receive an updated accommodation letter. Keep in mind that accommodations cannot be backdated or applied retroactively. Therefore, you are encouraged to meet with the Assistant Director of Accessibility and Equity as early as feasible.
