La Roche University’s Festival of Lights Event to Celebrate Holiday Season Dec. 1

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 2, 2023 – La Roche University invites alumni, friends and neighbors to Festival of Lights, an evening of crafts, holiday festivities, children’s activities, fireworks and more, on Friday, Dec. 1.  

Sponsored by UPMC Passavant and UPMC Health Plan, Festival of Lights will run from 3 to 9 p.m. on the University’s campus in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. Admission is free. Additional sponsors include the Sisters of Divine Providence, McCandless Crossing, Fairfield Inn & Suites, Henderson Brothers, Passavant Hospital Foundation, First National Bank and Zerorez.   

The annual craft show in the Zappala Campus Center is scheduled from 3 to 9 p.m., and fireworks over the La Roche campus will occur at 8:10 p.m. Evening activities include carriage rides, live ice sculpting and food trucks. Children can enjoy crafts, activities, games and a visit with Santa Claus in the Kerr Fitness & Sports Center. Performing Arts majors from La Roche will be dressed as sugar plum fairies for meet-and-greets with children.  

Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students Colleen Ruefle said, “Festival of Lights provides an entertaining, family-friendly atmosphere for our alumni, friends and neighbors to celebrate the holiday season with the La Roche community. We look forward to sharing this campus tradition with the North Hills of Pittsburgh.”  

Other activities include a Cans for Cocoa food drive organized by the La Roche Student Government Association. Guests are asked to donate canned goods, other nonperishable food items or $1 at the entrance of the Kerr Fitness & Sports Center to receive a cup of cocoa. Donations will be distributed to La Roche’s Providence Food Pantry for students in need and to North Hills Community Outreach.
